Did you see the news? In case you missed it, Solo has now moved into our brand new facility in Hazel Grove, Stockport.
Not only is it a significantly larger manufacturing capacity than our old premises in Poynton, but the facility we have created has a Cleanroom Manufacturing Area, with a Class 8 Quality Inspection cleanroom. As much as we all loved the Poynton site and the many happy memories it held, it was time to upscale production, think big and set up shop in a bespoke space.
Rethinking our workspace
Home since Solo started, the small unit at Poynton served us well. We researched and developed many of our products here and made great Technological advances in the world of in Flexible Containment. But without the option to expand, we felt it was time to find a new home. We also knew that the way forward was a Cleanroom Manufacturing environment and the important Class 8 Cleanroom for Quality Inspection. We needed to re-think our work space.
After a lengthy search, the site in Hazel Grove was identified and work began on our vision for the new building. The team at Solo are proud of our hard earned reputation for quality, not only in our research and design but in our manufacturing standards and so our new facility had to enable us to live up to that as we grow our order book.
Identifying the site was the first hurdle, now we had to make the space work for us. We needed it to be a cleanroom site, with a separate class 8 inspection chamber. It needed ample office space for growing headcount, and we needed to have somewhere we could welcome customers to not only demonstrate our product suite but also demonstrate our industry knowledge. We worked with the Manchester-based Rische Group, who understood our brief and turned it into the beautiful reality it is now.
Our facility now boasts
- A state of the art cleanroom manufacturing area
- A Class 8 inspection cleanroom
- A modern AV equipped Training HUB
- A Product showroom showcasing our finest Technologically Advanced isolators
- A bright flexible office space with a variety of meeting spaces
- Open and welcoming break out space and social hub for our wonderful staff
- Fully equipped Assembly bays, large racked stores and clean packing area
The whole space is a wonderful place to come and work each day. Solo are brilliant at research and development so it was vital for us to have a flexible office space where colleagues could brainstorm, work together and develop ideas. In the short few months that we’ve been here, staff have relaxed into the building, found their home and the atmosphere is just full of positivity.
Of all the aspects of the building, I think my two favourite places have to be the training HUB and our break out space. The HUB is a fabulous space for demonstrating who Solo are and what we are capable of. It has a large viewing window onto the Cleanroom Manufacturing Area which enables visitors a little bit of theatre, that provides an insight into the manufacturing of the enclosures without disturbing the carefully controlled environment. We are hoping to welcome visitors for bespoke containment training in 2020 which is a massive development for Solo and cements our position as knowledge leaders in flexible containment. Martyn is a wonderful presenter with exceptional experience and knowledge of the industry and we can’t wait to share this with our customers. The HUB is the ideal space for these sessions to take place. The Break Out Space is a light and airy, practical and fun place to hang out. With a funky furniture and a full size ‘foosball’ table, the staff are able to relax at break times surrounded by positive commitment messages that they themselves created.

The move was also a great time to revisit our brand style which has been brought right up to date. With a new state of the art building, we felt the need to strengthen our visual brand identity to do it the justice it deserved. We have introduced a new colour palette, additional new graphics and will be working on redesigning our suite of literature over time. The aim was to inject some of our personalities into the brand and we think we’ve achieved this. Following on our new website launch is imminent! www.solocontainment.com
As we look back at how far we have come in the Poynton unit, and the knowledge of what we can achieve in our new space is equally daunting and exciting in turn. Our business is growing and the future holds many exciting developments for us. We truly believe we are the best at what we do, and we now have a facility to match.
As the market for single-use containment continues to grow, with growth of the Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisations (CDMOs) in the pharmaceutical world, this new facility will enable us to grow alongside. We already lead the market in the Flexible containment in both innovation and quality and our new home demonstrates our commitment to this product and the future of flexible containment.
